Heat Related Illnesses What You Need to Know

However, summer should and must hold a cautionary tale for many an adventurer, for there is one frenemy of summer that must never be avoided nor forgotten, and that’s the good ol’ sun. Yes, the sun which provides Vitamin D and eliminates tan lines, is the self-same sun that has caused in the United States 7,415 deaths from 1999-2010 (an average of 618 per year.)
It is our God-given inalienable rite of summer to enjoy the sun, but we need to be aware of some of the heat related illnesses that also come in tow. Here is a list of some of the most common heat related illnesses to stay on the lookout for.
1. Heat exhaustion. This is usually the after result of the body exerting itself through work or exercise in heated conditions without receiving enough liquid hydration. When the heat outpaces your body’s ability to produce enough cooling sweat, heat exhaustion is the common result. The symptoms of heat exhaustion are fatigue, dizziness, headache, and nausea; and is usually treatable at home by taking a rest and hydrating. However, extreme heat exhaustion if left untreated, can lead to the more serious heat stroke (which is described in detail below)
