A Christmas Poem

Tis the week before Christmas and all through the land, Everything is not grand
People are scouring for shelter and food,
The Horn of Plenty has everyone fooled.
Prices keep rising to everyone’s surprise.
The world that we knew has turned the tide, favoring just a few.
No longer are people safe in their homes
The violence keeps mounting, guns all around.
Caught in a whirlwind of government red tape
Everyone now just has to wait.
The most wonderful time of the year has now turned bleak and cold.
Millions now are left standing all alone
Famine and disease have taken hold.
People keep dying through no fault of their own.
The weak and the frail are no better off
The sorrow and pain of their cries are never heard
The impoverished masses still abound
No longer visible to the powers that be.
There is no wiliness to put in place a respite from this disgrace
The tempo of life moves too fast
The tempests were in don’t have their place
Society now must rely on good grace.
A remembrance of things past must rewrite the day.
For far too long we let things decay
The time is now reassert the faith
Things will get better when we unite.
The needs of the many have all been erased
Their realm of reality has since been displaced
No longer capable of fending for themselves
Caught in a vacuum where little is left
Now force out into the streets by events unfolding
Bewildered and perplexed the masses keep growing
When benevolence and compassion should be showing
Where people ought to be thankful this time of year
Though tough times lay ahead we have to be thankful for things we still have.
This should give us a reassurance of what could lay ahead.
Those moments of past festivities where the pleasantries of life flowed free
Now, are just after thoughts of the struggles we have to endure.
In those moments of reflection where we all like to be
The storm clouds of uncertainty hang overhead.
The chill in the air by winters cold winds brings little comfort to those lying in wait
Waiting for the soft gentle breeze of a seasons change.
Could hope be on the horizon when winds turn around?
If we are to see another year the winds of change better be clear.
Clear of the intrusion of devises of greed and hate.
Where mankind chooses his own fate.
We now must proceed with vigor and haste with purpose to regain our faith
That humanity will emerge triumphant from the grips
