India is fast moving from villages and towns to cities and this trend will only keep increasingly at a steady pace. It becomes the responsibility of the government to nurture this trend by supporting the paradigm shift that is not only happening in and around the metros but also throughout the country. Smaller towns are increasingly transforming into bigger cities and along with them changing the lifestyle of many once rural areas.
The Union Cabinet had made note of this change and has approved two ‘Urban Missions’ that will help in this transformation. Smart cities and well-planned urban infrastructure is the need of the hour that is exactly what we are going to get in the future. Swachh Bharat was one of the initiatives that were initiated by the honorable Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi. It is still carried around by the local civic bodies aiming towards a better India.
This June 25th will be yet another big day for the central government as well as for the Indian real estate as our Prime Minister will launch the two most awaited projects / missions that have a long term benefit to the Indian Property scenario. Smart City and AMRUT, the projects to be launched, is an estimated Rs. 98,000 crore initiative!
Our population is ever-growing and to meet the needs and ease out the strain it puts on the already congested cities, over 100 smart cities are going to be developed with the help of partnership with countries such as Japan, France, Singapore and the USA. The guidelines that will be followed and more details of the cities will be announced by the Prime Minister in his press conference at the
Vigyan Bhavan amidst the presence of all the senior officials from the State government and the Union Territories.
Each state is expected to be assigned with a number of smart cities to be built and the grants will be given to them for the development. AMRUT stands for Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation on which Rs. 50,000 crore will be spent! It focuses on providing basic infrastructure to the urban population and aims to sort out water supply, sewage and storm water management, developing greenery and recreation and meeting the educational needs of the children.
Migration of professional working population from the rural areas is putting the urban India under a lot of undue stress and this comes in at the right time! Smart Cities like these aim in providing a better life standard for the city dwellers providing a clean and sustainable environment with the basic necessities offered at an affordable cost.
