Ching for Managing Large Projects

If you are having trouble with a very large project, consulting the ancient Chinese text known as the I Ching can help. To start with, if you have no idea what the I Ching is or how to use it, I lay out the basic three coin method for using the I Ching in a separate article. You can use the I Ching for anything in your life, however, this method works best for breaking up large projects into smaller manageable pieces. The first thing you need to do in order to use this method is to write down everything that you know so far about the project you are working on. Make sure you are as clear as possible. Then you should try to imagine breaking the project into a number of stages. Then take each stage and break it up and so on until you have a list of small baby steps that make up the larger project.
For example… let’s say your boss tells you that you need to interview twenty candidates and hire just one. The I Ching can help! In fact, you can use it at every stage. For this example, let’s just say your boss didn’t give you any ideas about what questions to ask the job candidates, he or she just wants you to do all that. Use the I Ching to ask what the ideal first question would be to offer to these candidates, then the second, and so on. Using the rtcm that is talked about by Carol Anthony and that I explain in a separate article will allow you to narrow down the questions to a series of very poignant and helpful questions… however many you feel you need. You could even ask the I Ching how many questions to ask your job candidates, and how long the job interviews should be.
Once you have the interviews done, go back to the I Ching and ask, for each candidate, “What will happen if I hire so and so”… the results will shock you, and very soon it will be obvious who the ideal candidate for the job is.
For another example, let’s say you were an entrepreneur… a salesperson. You want to know how you can make a million dollars. But that’s too broad and general a goal! Use the I Ching to first ask: how can I make my first sale? Then, how to make a hundred dollars, how to make two hundred, etc., until you reach your goal of one million.
