They Grow Up and Grow Up
It is time to leave the nest. You have spent your entire life living with your parents. As a child, all you were concerned about was running outside to play with your friends. You watched television, played video games, and surfed the internet. You would go to school, and participate in afterschool activities. Your parents drove you everywhere. Your meals were cooked for you. Your clothes were bought and washed for you. As you grew into a young teenager, you were required to do chores. Maybe, clean your room regularly. You might have had to do the dishes after dinner, or take out the garbage. In the spring and summer, you were asked to clean up the yard, mow the lawn, and water the grass. Eventually, you may have gotten a paying part time job. By the time you were in high school, you may have gotten a car to drive for the limited use of going to work, and maybe some nights out with your friends. You were saving money having fun, and enjoying life as a teenager. Through it all you always had a place to call home, a room with a bed that was all yours.
Times change
As you approach graduation from high school, you must decide what you are planning to do with your life, whether you will go straight into the work force or go to college. Either way, your life will change. If you start working a full time job you may be able to stay at home, living with your parents for a while. If you go to college close to home you can stay in your own room, if it is out of town, you will live in dorms at school. After a few years living at home as a young adult, both your parents and you start to get that feeling that the time is right for you to change your living situation. You may have been working full time and saved some money. Or, you have graduated from college and taken a new job some distance from home. It is time to make your move.
How to do it?
Once you have decided that you will move out of your parent’s home, and into your own place, you must narrow down your locations. It can seem overwhelming to get an apartment. If you are choosing to live in a small town, there may not be that many apartments available, which will reduce the stress. However, more than likely you will be moving to a large city where you hope to locate or have already found a good job. You need to research all available apartments through the classifieds, local newspapers, and on the internet. If your college is located nearby, you can reach out to alumni, or fellow classmates. You could also contact a real estate broker, or apartment locator company.
Do not jump at first offer
As desperate as you may be to find a new place to live, do not accept the first apartment you see, or the amount of rent which is presented to you as the only option. In larger areas, there will be many choices on the market. You must take advantage of the competition to find something that fits your style, as well as your budget.
