Order English and Literature assessment
Grading:
As usual, your grade will come from the criteria on the assignment grading rubric (see below). Look it over as a checklist before submitting your final version.
In addition, this assignment is one of our “signature assignments.”
The Signature Assignment Rubrics for Written Communication, Critical Thinking, and Information Literacy will be used to assess specific learning outcomes.
A complete set of these rubrics are posted in the top section of our course site for your review.
Familiarize yourself with these before completing the assignment.
Feel free to ask questions about interpreting these.
Getting Started:
The PowerPoint you created in a group in Week 8 lists the components for the Long Report.
You should prepare your long report as a Word doc or PDF (not powerpoint).
The intention since Week 9 has been to stick with the same topic/business problem, if possible. (Switching topics is OK if it helps.)
This Long Business Report is intended to be an extension of your Proposal with Visuals assignment from week 12.
Meeting Expectations:
The body section of your long business research report should accomplish three things:
Compare the pros and cons of at least two approaches (or theories) in relation to the problem you present.
Recommend the solution that makes the best business sense for your audience/recipient.
Present convincing supporting evidence, graphics, and visuals from research, citing sources accurately.
Make sure you revise the work you did on your Proposal with Visuals assignment to meet all the expectations of the content, purpose, and format of long business reports as described in our text.
See our text for explanations and samples.
Also see the example assignments posted in week 16 to see exactly what we are after.
The instructions and guides in Chapter 8 (especially the example report included) are a good start.
But please review Chapter 15 “Writing Careful Long Reports” for more variety in examples and more detailed advice and ideas.
Document design and visual appeal are important expectations of this assignment.
Chapter 10 is focused on “Designing Clear Visuals.”
As usual, keep in mind that I am not your audience–I am here to help you reach the audience you choose and to assess whether your report effectively reaches that audience.
Address your report to an appropriate business audience (a director, CEO, supervisor, committee, team, potential investor, etc.).
Required Format:
The basic components of a business research report are as follows, but these can vary.
There are different specific examples in Chapter 8 and Chapter 15.
I suggest studying these and deciding which to use and what alterations you might need to make, if any, to gear effectively toward your own audience and purpose.
Week 8 PowerPoints are the best starting point to review the format expected.

Transmittal letter

Table of contents
