Telephone Still Rules for Many Businesses

Despite all the advances in technology, there’s one type of communications that remains to be in use and remains a very powerful tool for any business, and that’s telephone communications. Not even technological innovations like chat, email, websites, and social media can dislodge the lowly telephone from its position as still one of the easiest and most effective ways customers can communicate with a business, and vice versa.
Although telephone communications is slower than its modern counterparts, it still has multiple benefits in this world that can get impersonal. Here are some of such benefits:
It’s personal – And, if we may add, immediate. Talking to someone on the phone is still the best way to get a more personal response. It’s almost like talking to someone face to face, with the only difference being not seeing the face of the person you’re talking to. With other modern communication tools such as email, texting (SMS), or via contact forms on websites, you leave or send a message on a certain day but you’re not assured of getting a response on the same day, if you’ll even get a response at all. There are businesses that get tons of messages on a daily basis that they can’t respond to all of them.
It’s effective – For communications between people to be effective, it has to involve body language, voice tone, and the spoken word. All of these elements are things you can’t get if you use only the written word. With a phone call, the only element that’s absent is body language; you still have voice tone and the spoken word.
It’s more interactive – By using email or texting, the response of one party can take minutes to hours, or even days. When you have long time gaps during a communications process, a party’s mind may have changed by the time the other party responds. On the other hand, in a phone conversation, the parties in the conversation can immediately give immediate responses, sometimes even overlap. You’ll have a more natural flow in your conversation in a phone call.
You can do it while driving – Well, of course, you have to use Bluetooth technology when using a phone while driving so your hands are free while on a call. That’s certainly something you can’t do by texting or sending an email. Even with smartphones that can follow voice commands, the issue is the accuracy of the message, or you may have to repeat the dictation several times before the smartphone gets it right.
Certainly, we don’t see the telephone being ‘decommissioned’ anytime soon. It has, and looks like will always be, one of the most effective ways for businesses and customers to get in touch with each other.
