Some of the therapy that an individual with amnesia will undergo include; occupational, psychotherapy, and technology use. Occupational therapy is all about learning new information and trying to replace what was lost. By remembering those old memories, a therapist will help a patient create new memories, thus developing a way to retrieve the information lost. When someone creates new memories, and they tend to be happy about them, they will lose the feeling of loss of those memories that they have.
Psychotherapy helps patients who have lost their memory due to a traumatic event; this therapy helps patients cope with their memory loss. When people lose their memory, they will most likely be traumatized because they will feel a gap in their lives and want to feel that gap. Technology is the newest form of therapy, some people have a severe phone of amnesia, and when they cannot store information in their heads on their own, they will use technology to remind them what they should do and what they should no. Photographs and videos are a particular way individuals will remember the events they had completely forgotten about.
Depending on how the amnesia was caused, it may get better with time or worsen. These conditions the individuals, especially the loved ones who will be present in the individual life, will be stressful for them, and they have to be supportive since most of these patients will be frustrated and angry most of the time. Their mood will always be off since they do not know how they used to be, and most likely, they do not remember anything that is there. The constant reminder sometimes is tiring. These people thus need continuous care and love from their caregivers and more so patients.
